Although Ellsworth currently is not a very bicycle-friendly community, it certainly has a few things going for it that will help it become one. The first advantage Ellsworth has to becoming a bicycle-friendly city is the Ellsworth pedestrian bicycle trail which connects downtown neighborhoods to the village of Ellsworth Falls as well as points in between, including Ellsworth High School. The city is also home to the beginning of the Downeast Sunrise Trail, an 87 mile mixed-use trail connecting Ellsworth to Downeast Maine. The East Coast Greenway also passes through the city, which is an 3,000-mile biking route that connects east coast cities of the US to Canada.
