Green Ellsworth Hosted Maine Climate Council Consultation
August 19, 2020, 5:00pm
As part of a state-wide consultation process, the Maine Climate Council offered a webinar presentation and consultation session specifically for Ellsworth and Hancock County residents on August 19 at 5:00PM. It was hosted by Green Ellsworth as preliminary to the release of the Ellsworth Green Plan for public review. Learn more here.
Green Ellsworth Celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day!
The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped our spring and refocused priorities. It is a time of uncertainty, fear, and loneliness for many. While we find ourselves limited as never before, we also strive to find opportunities to explore, grow, and strengthen our community. In this spirit, we invited community members to join us in a different sort of celebration of Earth Day, to cultivate a sense of wonder and to share it with others.

Opportunities to Explore, Create, and Share!
During this time of physical distancing, we continue to invite you to safely Explore, Create, and Share, including:
To go outside and explore the world: See something new or revisit the familiar. Listen intently and smell the arrival of spring. Sit and observe a spot or maybe wander quietly. Marvel at the natural world.
To create in an effort to capture the sense of wonder: Choose any medium, whether the written or spoken word, a song, or dance, a drawing or a photograph!
To share your creation with the community: Grow the wonder as a celebration of our annual Earth Days and our planet.
Annual Spring Roadside Clean-up ... Same same, but different.
To honor Earth Day and beautify our city, citizens were asked to pick up roadside trash on their own while adhering to physical distancing guidelines. Through April 30, the City of Ellsworth accepted bagged trash for free at the transfer station and during normal roadside pickup-up days.

To celebrate Earth Day/Month, Daniel, Thea and Robin (neighbors) got together with gloves, masks and grabbers. We walked along the Downeast Scenic Railway from Park St. to just behind Hammond Lumber. We picked up litter... lots of cigarette butts. Now that part of the railway really is more scenic. It was fun and we'll do it again.
