Green Ellsworth

A Citizens' Initiative

In January 2017, the Ellsworth Garden Club launched the Ellsworth Green Plan process through a public forum.

A vision developed after input from residents and local leaders: make Ellsworth, Maine, a model green community.

From ponds to plastic

Green Ellsworth volunteers lead community events, organize public forums, and research and analyze topics ranging from water quality to single-use plastics ordinances (and everything in between).

Everyone has a role to play in greening our city

Green Ellsworth welcomes community members who want to make Ellsworth, Maine, a more accessible, healthy, safe, and sustainable community.

What is a Green Plan?

Green Ellsworth released a Green Plan for the City of Ellsworth, Maine early in 2021. It provides a ten-year road map for sustainable development with strategies and recommendations in four primary areas: Water, Land, Food & Farming and Infrastructure.

The plan was developed by volunteers from the input of hundreds of citizens and numerous experts, two dozen public forums, countless hours of meetings, substantial field research, small projects, surveys, mapping, inventories, and analysis—all in aid of moving Ellsworth closer to becoming a model green community.
